Jones, Drexel Institute, Philadelphia, 2 March 1935, recalling articles he has written and where and when they appeared; to Cyril Lakin, literary editor, The Sunday times, 22 January 1939, inquiring about the fate of "Remember Mitchel;" to S.A. Russell, Liberty Book Club, 5 December 1949, agreeing to reduce his royalty rate on "Pictures in the hallway" and comments about Chiang Kai Shek and Chinese ambassadors; to Ben D. Zevin, World Publishing Co., 2 March 1953, complimenting him on his dictionary and commenting on the Irish origin of many American idioms; and to Eleanor Kask, World Publishing Co., 19 March 1953, allowing her to print his remarks to Zevin about the dictionary.

Sean O'Casey was born John Casey on March 30, 1880 in Dublin, Ireland, to Michael and Susan (Archer) Casey, a lower-middle class Protestant family. His father died in 1886. As a child, O'Casey suffered from trachoma, which affected his sight and made it difficult for him to succeed scholastically. He worked periodically throughout his adolescence as a stock boy, a van driver, and railway laborer.
